Press Conference of 22nd International Congress of Historical Sciences Held in Shandong University

 

    On the morning of 21st January, the press conference of 22nd International Congress of Historical Sciences was held in the central campus of Shandong University.

 

 

    Marjatta Hietala, President of International Committee of Historical Sciences (CISH), Zhang Haipeng, President of Association of Chinese Historians, and Zhang Rong, President of Shandong University attended the press conference and delivered speeches. Chen Yan, Vice-President of Shandong University hosted the press conference.

    On behalf of CISH, Marjatta Hietala extended her welcome to those who participated in the press conference. She said that the Organizing Committee was highly efficient, the content of the official website was abundant, and she was glad that the Congress information could be spread world wide by all kinds of measures.

    She mentioned that the main responsibility of CISH was to reflect the trend of globalization, and among all the themes of the Congress close to the reality. She also thought that the greatest achievement of ICHS was it could provide new perspective for us to observe the history and could enhance the international influence of the historical subjects.

    Professor Hietala reviewed her several impressive communications with colleagues from Shandong University. In her speech, she also made a unique interpretation of the logo of 22nd ICHS from the perspectives of culture content, historical progress, and equality of men and women, and presented her own interpretation of history by a poem translated herself.

 

 

    Zhang Haipeng introduced the process of Association of Chinese Historian’s bid for 22nd ICHS, and noted that the hosting of the Congress would provide the opportunity for historians all over the world to discuss topics regarding history and historical sciences in Jinan, and in China.

    He hoped that the Congress would be one with the most participants, and believed it would be a success, a forum which could promote communications between Chinese historians and historians from other countries, and play a positive part in uniting the two parties.

 

 

 

    Zhang Rong said that the host of the Congress in Jinan would be an important reflection of China’s comprehensive national strength and international influence also it was a great chance to display China’s civilization to the world. This would be a milestone for the internationalization construction of Shandong University’s, which would promote not only Shandong University but also China’s history sciences and the whole humanities and social sciences into a high speed development.

    As the host of the Congress, it is the honor as well as the responsibility of Shandong University; the university would make every effort to do the job.

    He said that Shandong University has long-established disciplines and profound academic accumulation, which would offer strong supports to the well organization of the Congress. Besides, having successfully organized many international conferences provided Shandong University the abundant experience. Thus the University had confidence and ability to well hold this Congress.

    He hoped the media would keep paying attention to the series of academic activities from the perspectives of the images of China and Shandong, and the development of historical sciences, comprehensively introduce the Congress to the public through multi-angles and deep insight, and witness this great Congress of historical sciences with the whole world.

    During the press conference, Secretary-general of 22nd ICHS Organizing Committee of Shandong University, Dean of School of History and Culture, Fang Hui, made a brief introduction of preparation of the Congress and the plan for the organizing work in the rest 7 months.

    Later, representatives from CISH, Association of Chinese Historians, Expert Consultative Committee, Secretariat jointly answered the questions from the attending media, including why Jinan had been selected as the host city, how the organizing work of the Cones going, the registration of participants from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan and the meaning of the Congress to Chinese historian community and humanities disciplines.
